Omar Abdulghafoor, Ph.D.

Chair, Electronic and Telecommunication

Omar Abdulghafoor is an Assistant Professor of Telecommunication Engineering at the American University of Kurdistan. He received his MEng and PhD in Telecommunication Engineering from the National University of Malaysia.

Prior to joining AUK in 2019, he worked in a number of international universities starting in 2005, in both the education and research sectors, at various job levels. He began as a lecturer at Multimedia University, went on to become assistant researcher at the National University of Malaysia, and then became Deputy Dean of Undergraduate Students’ Affairs at the College of Engineering of Al-Madinah International University in Malaysia. Moreover, Omar is professionally registered as a Chartered Engineer, CEng, and International Professional Engineer, IntPE, with the UK Engineering Council, a Chartered Scientist with the UK Science Council, and an International Professional Registration Advisor, IPRA, with the Institute of Engineering and Technology, IET-UK. His research interests include cognitive radio networks, radio resources management for wireless networks, TV White Space, 5G-based smart cities, and game theory applications in 5G mobile communications.
