The AUK Continues Its Campaign for Sustainable Development
Duhok, Kurdistan Region – February 20, 2023 – On February 14, the American University of Kurdistan (AUK) continued its “Campaign for the Universal Goals of Sustainable Development” by showcasing innovative solutions for water management, green buildings, waste management strategies, and innovations in green energy. The event was a collaboration among the AUK Student STEM Club, Hasara Organization, and Daro Company. Dr. Sarmad Majeed, AUK faculty and General Counsel, was the campaign initiator.
Dr. Majeed elaborated, “Sustainability is the crucial word here; thus, we encourage community participation and seek to advocate for and influence policies that promote development in order to raise public awareness regarding the significance of sustainable development.”
Exhibits included: The Daro Company’s solar panel products; AUK Faculty member Dr. Ahmed Khairadeen’s series of simulated green building projects; Hasar Organization’s innovative water recycling technologies for residential and commercial use; and the AUK Student STEM Club’s projects on waste reduction and recycling.
In fact, waste separation was initiated on February 14th at the American University of Kurdistan with the installation of recycling bins placed throughout the campus.
As the university approaches its tenth anniversary, it maintains and intensifies its commitment to promoting efforts that aim to establish a sustainable global environment across every discipline.
