AUK Raises Awareness of Breast Cancer
Duhok, Kurdistan Region – October 22, 2003 – The American University of Kurdistan’s Center for Academic and Professional Advancement (CAPA) organized a breast cancer awareness event in collaboration with the College of Nursing (CoN). A panel discussion was held under the theme “Early detection saves lives” to examine the following topics: methods for early detection; prompt assistance seeking; strategies for combating the illness; and go-to places in Duhok for reference.
The doctors on stage also informed the audience the increasing number of cases on a daily basis, with a variety of factors contributing.
Among the experts who took part in the panel discussion were a courageous breast cancer survivor, a psychologist, a consultant medical oncologist, a gynecologist, and a surgeon. Their perspectives and personal anecdotes inspired the audience deeply, emphasizing the critical idea that prompt identification may result in survival—possibly even their own. The survivor described her intense emotional experience, emphasizing the power of early detection and screening to effect significant change. The participants at this event gained knowledge about breast cancer and received encouragement to continue advocating for early detection as an important part of their personal health journeys.
On this significant day, CAPA provided a complimentary placement examination, and our College of Nursing contributed to community service by instructing students on early detection techniques using a real breast model. CoN also promoted a local healthy-food company and a variety of other activities that contributed to the overall promotion of a healthy lifestyle at the event.
