Genel Energy Donor Visit Highlights Academic Support at AUK

On November 6, 2024, a delegation from Genel Energy visited the American University of Kurdistan (AUK) to discuss academic and industry partnerships. The delegation, led by Mr. Ridvan Alkan, KRI Country Representative at Genel Energy, and Mrs. Hawnaz Sharif Abo, Genel’s KRI Office Coordinator, met with AUK’s leadership team, including President Dr. Randall Rhodes, Provost Dr. Triona Croke, and Vice President for Administration and Finance Mr. Omed Zawity.

The meeting focused on the progress of Genel Energy’s scholarship awardees at AUK. Students shared how the financial support had alleviated the burden of tuition fees and allowed them to focus on their studies. Discussions also centered on enhancing AUK’s Petroleum Engineering and Oil & Gas Management programs, with Genel Energy agreeing to serve as an industry advisor to ensure alignment with the sector’s evolving needs. Another key topic was leveraging AUK’s alumni network for future talent recruitment.

The visit continued with a tour of AUK’s campus, showcasing facilities such as the state-of-the-art labs, library, radio station, and student areas.

During lunch with the scholarship awardees, Mr. Alkan shared insights from his career in the petroleum industry, inspiring students with his varied experiences on multiple continents.

This visit underscored the strong collaboration between Genel Energy and AUK, laying the foundation for greater student success.
