AUK’s Mental Health Awareness Day Opens Conversations
In recognition of World Mental Health Awareness Day, on October 10, 2023, AUK’s Counseling Services organized a day of events to promote mental health awareness and combat the stigma of asking for help. Led by Yelena Sardaryan, Director of Student Affairs, the day’s programming aimed to foster a supportive environment for the students, faculty, and staff. She stressed the need for education and self-awareness to recognize when professional support is necessary. She encouraged individuals to identify signs of distress in others and refer them to professional assistance, fostering a culture of support.
As a sign of the World Mental Health Awareness Day, members of the AUK community wore green ribbons, symbolizing their recognition for and support of mental health care. Throughout the day, student volunteers distributed more than sixty brochures addressing various mental health topics specific to common life and university issues. A workshop titled “Enhancing Mental Well-being and Personal Growth” introduced students to AUK’s Counseling Services and emphasized the importance of seeking professional help. Counseling Services provided depression scale surveys to help individuals assess their mental well-being and whether connecting with specialists may be appropriate.
Through workshops, self-assessments, green ribbons, and informative brochures, AUK demonstrated its commitment to breaking barriers and fostering a campus environment that supports students’ academic and professional success.
