AUK’s College of Nursing Launches the AUKLS Training Site
Duhok, Kurdistan Region – February 15, 2023 – The College of Nursing at the American University of Kurdistan (AUK) announced its new Life Support Training Site, AUKLS, and hosted the first introductory event for students and staff of Cihan University, in AUK’s auditorium on February 14. During the event, the three AHA-certified instructors, Dr. Layla Salih, Nergiz Fatah, and Dr. Jervy Bernardino, Dean of the College of Nursing at AUK, were introduced.
The AUKLS is Iraq’s first accredited American Heart Association (AHA) training site within a university. The AUKLS’ training programs are designed to provide participants with the knowledge and skills needed to respond effectively to cardiac emergencies, and they include several courses on essential life support skills and techniques recommended by the AHA.
In his opening remarks, Dr. Jervy Bernardino emphasized the importance of learning life-saving skills, pointing out that anyone, including attendees and certificate holders, can help save lives in emergencies. “Many hospitals, universities, and other organizations provide training centers, but none of them are accredited, which means that those certificates are not recognized internationally,” he stated, adding, “Thus, the launch of the AUKLS is significant for our nursing students, health care professionals, and everyone in the community, as participants will be internationally credentialed.”
The American Heart Association (AHA) is a non-profit organization in the United States that supports cardiovascular medical research, educates the public about healthy living, and promotes cardiac care.
