Webinar on Sustainable Furniture Design

On January 26, 2024, the Design Department of the American University of Kurdistan (AUK) hosted an online lecture featuring Dr. Farah El Zein, the Head of the Design Department at the American University of Cyprus, on the topic of the future of sustainable design. The webinar titled “Sustainable Furniture” was organized by Mr. Ahmad Afara, AUK Design Department, and attended by 23 students of the Bachelor’s Program in Design.

Dr. El Zein, an expert in the field of Sustainable Interior Architecture, which includes receiving the 2023 Sustainable Design Mentorship Award and participating in Milan Design Week, shared perspectives on the transformation of design production and consumption trends. The webinar provided an overview of the furniture industry’s circular economy, with an emphasis on the profound impact that sustainable practices, materials, and responsible waste management.
The web seminar aimed to inspire upcoming designers to incorporate responsibility, innovation, and sustainability into their work. Such events supplement the Design curriculum with the latest international trends in theory and application.
