The American University of Kurdistan sponsors the “Youth and Competencies Conference” in London
Under the sponsorship of the American University of Kurdistan; the Iraqi Embassy to the United Kingdom in London convened the Youth and Competencies Conference on March 28th 2018. AUK Provost Professor Nazar Numan attended this conference and delivered a speech on behalf of the American University of Kurdistan. He shed light on the nature of our quality higher education at the American University of Kurdistan and the importance of developing youth competencies to ensure a better future in Kurdistan and Iraq in the 21st Century. No topic in AUK’s vision can surpass in importance the subject of youth, especially in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq Prime where according to UN statistics 60% of the population are below the age of 24. This is what in fact prompted AUK to sponsor this vital conference. It is critically important to prepare our youth to face the challenges of building a knowledge based economy and sustainable development.
The Iraqi Federal Minister of Youth and Sports Mr. Mr. Abdul Hussien Abtan, together with the Ambassador of Iraq to the UK, Dr. Salih Hussein Ali and the Mayor of London Borough of Brent attended this conference and delivered speeches in this regards. Over 150 attendants of youth, Iraqi technocrats residing in the UK, together with British NGO’s that deal with education issues in Iraq took part in the proceedings. Stimulating discussions were taking place all through the conference, and there were lots of AUK signboards and hangers to inform and encourage youth from UK to study at the American University of Kurdistan.
