In Honor of General Mustafa Barzani

Today marks the 120th birthday of Mustafa Barzani, also known as “General of the Mountains” and “Spiritual Father of the Kurdish Nation.” The late Barzani dedicated his entire life to the Kurdish liberation movement, co-founded the Republic of Mahabad in today’s Iran, and laid the foundation for Kurdish sovereignty in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.

Barzani passed away in Washington, DC, at the Georgetown Hospital on March 1, 1979.
