ELI and Taqa Launched English Classes for 250 Students
Duhok, Kurdistan Region of Iraq – August 15th, 2018 – The American University of Kurdistan’s English Language Institute (ELI) Community in collaboration with Taqa Company, launched English classes for 250 students in a special ceremony.
The opening of these classes took place in Chamanke village, attended by participants from Chamanke, Bellan and Atroshe, representatives of Taqa Company and ELI Community, as well as Chamanke sub district mayor and head of Chamanke youth union.
“We are pleased to be a part of this initiative offering English language courses to people in these areas. Our aim is to help the attendees improve their English language skills and give them the confidence to go out and communicate in English.” Said Jevine Mashko, Manager of ELI Community in a statement.
These courses are presented as a part of Taqa Company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategy in Kurdistan. The aim of the program is to contribute to the development of the local economy in Taqa’s area of operations.
“English is quietly imposing its presence in the Kurdistan region through English taught school. It is important to know that the rise in English has been just one of the many changes which have taken Kurdistan.” Said Tania Hussien, Taqa’s Community Liaison Officer “Due to the lack of professional schools and teacher, many students have lost the chance to learn English in an appropriate way, and for that matter Taqa has linked with the AUK to enable 250 Youth to acquire basic language skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) in its area of operation in Atrush Block.”
TAQA (meaning energy in Arabic) is an international energy and water company listed in Abu Dhabi operating in 11 countries across four continents, including Kurdistan Region of Iraq. Its vision is to be the leading international energy and water operator from Abu Dhabi.
