AUK Job Fair 2023 Connects Alumni and Students with Companies
On May 4, the “Gaming Area” on the campus of the American University of Kurdistan (AUK) was transformed into a serious place of business. AUK students and alumni were professionally attired and presenting their resumes to representatives of local companies. They sharpened their interview skills and expanded their professional connections. This was the 2023 AUK Job Fair. This event was a collaboration between Perwar Al-Missouri, Director of Career Services in the Office of Student Affairs, and AUK’s Office of Advancement, responsible for alumni engagement and various forms of University-industry outreach. The establishment of Career Services was made possible by the U.S. Department of State’s Grant titled “Supporting American-Style Education in Iraq.”
The companies in attendance were industry leaders from across the private sector. Several had already visited AUK’s campus to inform students about employment possibilities. They include: NassWallet, DNO, Korek Telecom, and Genel Energy. Other AUK partners in attendance were: RT Bank, DP Duhok, KAR Group, Lazgin, Blann Bazar, Talabat, Darin Steel, MED Steel, Cihan Motors, Hertz, Asiacell, Business Line, SMC, FLT, the Norwegian Refugee Council, and Cadmus International School.
So many AUK students and alumni took advantage of the opportunity to speak to company representatives at the 2023 Job Fair. The institutional objective is to ensure all students have internships in their fields of study and are ready for the workforce. The American University of Kurdistan hopes that many future working relationships got started at the 2023 Job Fair. It was evident that the event was an excellent forum for networking.
