Scholarships

The American University of Kurdistan offers scholarships for students, as per the following conditions:

  • The student must be enrolled as full-time (min. 12 credits/semester).
  • The student must be self-funded (exceptions are scholarships, loans, etc.).
  • The student fulfills the conditions of the specific scholarship.

Scholarships and Awards

  • Conditions:
    • The student must be self-funded (exceptions are scholarships, loans,
      etc.).
    • Be a citizen or resident of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq or be of
      Kurdish ethnicity residing in a neighboring country of Iraq.
    • Submit a complete Application for Admission
    • The student must abide by the student code of conduct to remain
      eligible for the scholarship.
    • The award recipient must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.50
      for the duration of their studies to remain eligible for the
      scholarship.
    • Maintain full-time status, minimum 12 credits each semester, to
      remain eligible for the scholarship.
    • Scholarship seats are limited for each program and high school
      category.
    • The student is responsible for the full cost of all repeated,
      failed, or withdrawn courses.
    • Any credits attempted beyond the total required credits in the
      student’s study plan will be charged at the full tuition rate.

Children and spouses of martyrs are offered full tuition grants
to study at AUK. This government-funded grant is provided by the Ministry of Anfal
and Martyrs to students within the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. The grant applies to
the governorates operating within the Kurdistan Region of Iraq: Duhok, Hawler, and
Sulaimaniyah.
  • Number of awards: Open
  • Conditions:
    • The student must fill out all application forms and provide all
      documentation required by AUK and governmental offices.
    • The student must abide by all rules and regulations set by the
      Ministry of Anfal and Martyrs.
    • Continuous enrollment is required until completion of bachelor’s
      degree.
    • In the event that the student uses up their allowance prior to
      graduation due to failed courses/exams, the student must
      independently fund his/her own tuition through to graduation.
      Unfortunately, if a student is unable to pay his/her own tuition
      after they have used up their allowance, the student will not be
      able to continue their academic career at AUK.
    • The student must abide by the student code of conduct to remain
      eligible for the scholarship.

  • Conditions:
    • To promote diversity and inclusion, the scholarship will provide
      opportunities for:
      • 2 seats for qualified Kurdish students from Rojava
      • 1 seat for a qualified Yazidi student
      • 1 seat for a qualified Christian student
      • 1 seat for a qualified Muslim student from the host community
    • Award recipients should have achieved a score of 80% or above in
      their baccalaureate certificate.
    • Additional Costs: Students are responsible for the full cost of any
      repeated, failed, or withdrawn courses, levels, or tests, as well as
      any credits taken beyond those required by the approved study plan.
    • Higher averages are required for specific majors if the student
      graduated from an institute.
    • To qualify for the second selection stage, applicants must
      demonstrate English proficiency through one of the following:
      • Achieve Level 4 (ELP intermediate 2 level) or higher on the
        AUK placement test.
      • Submit a valid, authenticated certificate for one of the
        following:
        • TOEFL ITP: 500+ (Conducted at AUK)
        • IELTS (Paper-Based): 6.0+
    • Scholarship is valid for up to five years from the date of
      acceptance. For four-year programs, it covers up to four years of
      Bachelor’s study and one year of English Levels. For five-year
      programs, it covers up to five years of Bachelor’s study only.
    • The award recipient must maintain full-time status, with a minimum
      of 12 credits each semester, to remain eligible for the scholarship.
    • The award recipient must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0
      throughout their studies to remain eligible for the scholarship.
    • The award recipient must abide by the student code of conduct to
      remain eligible for the scholarship.

    • Tuition: Courses as stated in the Study Plan for the academic
      program.
    • Financial aid for transportation and/or accommodation (students must
      apply separately to determine eligibility)

      maximum of four academic years. For Architectural Engineering, the

    • If the student starts in the English Language Program (ELP), the
      scholarship is awarded for a maximum of five academic years,
      including one year for ELP and four years for the bachelor’s
      program.
  • Financial Coverage:
    • Full scholarship covering tuition, English language courses, and
      university fees.
    • Awardees are responsible for covering costs for any failed,
      withdrawn, or repeated courses/levels.
    • Financial aid (transportation or accommodation) - students must

    • The award recipient must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 for the duration of their studies to remain eligible for the scholarship.
    • Students with a cGPA lower than 2.5 will lose the scholarship for one semester and have to earn it back by increasing their cGPA to 2.5. During this semester, the student will be self-funded.
  • Financial Coverage:
    • The cost of English Language Program and the bachelor’s program is covered, and the repeats of any courses, housing in the UniversityResidence Facility, fees, and the costs of English-Language Proficiency Exams are not covered

  • Conditions:

    • Have a baccalaureate score of 80% and higher.

    • The award recipient must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.00 for the duration of their studies to remain eligible for the scholarship.

    • It is not possible to change the program the recipient is enrolled in.
    • Students with a cumulative GPA lower than 2.00 will be placed on probation and will have two semesters to reach a cGPA of minimum 2.00. Students who fail to do so will be dismissed from the university.
