The American University of Kurdistan Invites Public Comments for Accreditation Evaluation
The American University of Kurdistan (AUK) is pleased to announce that it will be undergoing a comprehensive evaluation visit by the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE) from February 25 to 28, 2024.
NECHE, a recognized U.S. accrediting commission, provides institutional accreditation to approximately 220 institutions in the United States and American-style institutions overseas. Accreditation is a voluntary process that applies to the institution as a whole and signifies the institution’s commitment to meeting high educational standards.
While AUK became eligible to apply for Candidacy in Spring 2022, it is important to note that Candidacy is not accreditation itself, but rather a formal affiliation with NECHE that demonstrates the institution’s progress towards accreditation.
Over the past year and a half, AUK has engaged in a rigorous self-study process, focusing on addressing the Commission’s Standards for Accreditation. This evaluation visit by a team of peer reviewers provides an opportunity to gather evidence on the institution’s progress-to-date. Based on their findings, the team will recommend a continuing status for our institution; the Commission will make the final decision.
As part of this self-evaluation process, the AUK invites members of the larger community to share their comments regarding the University. Public comments must be submitted by February 28, 2024, and address substantive matters related to the institution’s quality. Please note that the Commission cannot settle disputes between individuals and institutions.
