Dr. Azad Najar

Dr. Azad Najar is Senior consultant in urology, inventor and researcher in cardiac physiology. He also has extensive hands-on experience in innovation strategies, regulation, patent strategies, and development of industrial products and technology companies.

Dr. Najar develops medical devices, including artificial hearts. With the help of an experienced engineering team, he has been able to realize his vision of saving the lives of millions of people with heart disease. He spent twenty years developing the “RealHeart TAH,” the world’s first artificial heart that replicates the structure and function of a normal heart and is equipped with intelligence that determines the volume of blood pumped according to the body’s needs.

In addition to his surgical and medical knowledge, Dr. Najar also possesses innovative and technical skills. The combination of these three talents has been instrumental in the development of the artificial heart and other innovations. He holds about 37 patents in 11 patent families in several countries around the world.

Dr. Najar is the principal owner and founder of Scandinavian Real Heart, a company developing artificial hearts, where he has served as Chief Executive Officer and Chief Technological Officer. He is also the co-founder of the Kurdistan Innovation Institute (KII), an initiative of Kurdistan Prime Minister Masrour Barzani that aims to promote and develop new innovative ideas in the Kurdistan Region and the rest of Iraq.

Since 2002, he has been a member of the Swedish Medical Association and a holder of a Swedish medical license. Since 2008, he has been a member of the Swedish Board of Urology. He served on the Board of Directors of the Swedish Inventors’ Association from 2017 to 2019 and is a member of Swedish Inventors’ Association. He was a member of the Iraqi Medical Association in the past.

Dr. Najar earned his B.Sc. in medicine from the Iraqi College of Mosul.
