February 14, 2026 – Duhok, Kurdistan Region. Students officially moved into AUK’s new Men’s Residence
Facility, marking a major milestone in the University’s continued campus expansion. With a gross floor area of 10,492
m², the six-story facility can accommodate 183 students in 103 bedrooms. Along with double and single rooms, the
building offers handicapped accessible rooms. Each floor has shared amenities, including kitchens, dining areas, and
laundry rooms. On the ground level is a fitness center and a social-study space.
The facility was designed and constructed to meet LEED standards under the U.S. Green Building Council framework.
Sustainability strategies include energy-efficient HVAC systems and LED lighting, water-saving fixtures, recycled and
locally sourced materials, enhanced indoor air quality systems, and structured waste management practices. Green spaces
and reflective roofing help reduce heat impact, while smart building systems support efficient operations. Outside,
there are also bike lanes, parking, and EV charging stations.
AUK is aiming to attain Silver, and possibly Gold, LEED certification. The opening of the Men’s Residence reflects the
University’s commitment to providing modern, environmentally responsible facilities that support both academic success
and student well-being. The facility will also facilitate AUK’s student recruitment initiatives across Kurdistan, Iraq,
and the region.
