Missouri State University and The American University of Kurdistan Sign Agreement
The American University of Kurdistan (AUK) and Missouri State University (MSU), represented by Mr. Clifton M. Smart, III, President of Missouri State University, and Dr. Randall Rhodes, President of The American University of Kurdistan, virtually signed an agreement on July 27 that establishes a framework for collaboration between the two universities in the areas of academic programs, research, and cultural exchange. This partnership aims to leverage the strengths of both institutions to create transformative opportunities for students and faculty members while promoting international cooperation and understanding. The agreement was facilitated by Mr. Delovan Barwari, Director of Public and Academic Affairs at Kurdistan Regional Government Representation in the United States in Washington, D.C.
The Agreement outlines 3+2 and 4+1 Bachelor’s to Master’s Degree Programs where AUK students spend three years studying their bachelor’s program at AUK and then complete their final year at MSU, attain the AUK degree, and immediately proceed to a master’s program at MSU. AUK student can also attend MSU after completing their bachelor’s degree at AUK. AUK students are responsible for covering all tuition, fees, and living expenses while in Missouri, though MSU offers the International Partners Scholarship, which reduces by seventy-five percent (75%) the out-of-state tuition rate charged by MSU. AUK alumni can also participate. MSU master’s programs identified for this opportunity are Project Management and International Studies.
As both institutions are excited to promote student study abroad opportunities, AUK students also have the option to take courses at MSU on a non-degree-seeking basis, while MSU students can do the same at the AUK campus.
The agreement also outlines opportunities for cooperative research, professional development, and instructional opportunities for faculty and staff from both universities. AUK faculty members will have the opportunity for short-term visits to MSU, and similarly, MSU faculty and staff may engage in short-term visits to AUK.
The agreement between Missouri State University and The American University of Kurdistan is an important step in providing AUK students and alumni with opportunities for master’s degrees at U.S. universities, capacity-building among faculty and staff, and growing the international profile of the AUK.
