His Holiness Mar Awa III Visits AUK to Strengthen Ties with Assyrian Diaspora

On May 14 2025, The American University of Kurdistan (AUK) was honored to host His Holiness Mar Awa III, Catholicos-Patriarch of the Assyrian Church of the East. He was joined by His Grace Bishop Mar Abris Youkhana and Father Esha Dawood.

The visit built on connections first formed during AUK’s 10th Anniversary celebrations and focused on strengthening relationships with the Assyrian diaspora, particularly in the United States. Discussions explored opportunities for academic collaboration, faculty exchange, study-abroad programs, and scholarships for Assyrian students.

Led by Ms. Natalie Alec from the Office of Advancement, His Holiness was welcomed by AUK President Dr. Randall Rhodes, Provost Dr. Triona Croke, Secretary of the Board of Trustees Dr. Honar Issa, and other university leaders. His tour included academic labs, the library, and the university store.

His Holiness donated books to the AUK library and presented a symbolic gift to the university. In return, AUK offered a token of appreciation. The visit reinforced a shared commitment to expanding educational access and cultural connection across communities.
