Sarhat Nariman Khamo
B.A. in Business Management
Choosing
a conventional academic path while remaining
innovative and creative is difficult to
juggle, but not for AUK’s business
management student, Sarhat N. Khamo. Sarhat
has no qualms about combining studies with a
passion for photography and videography, his
chosen career path.
As a big fan of cinema and motion
pictures since childhood, has studying
at AUK’s College of Business changed
your mind about your future
career?
At
first, I was unhappy and I felt
insecure, and I questioned whether
I
|
|
|
|
made the right decision
regarding my studies. However, now I am
convinced that I am studying for a
degree that will allow me to run my own
production company in the future, where
I can produce films.
As an active member
of AUK’s Student Government and a
full-time student, where do you find
time and inspiration for your
ideas?
Kurdistan is full of
untold and original stories that I want
to tell and capture through every
photograph I take and every film I make.
Indeed, my time is fully stretched, but
where there is a passion, there is
always a way.

Rama Noel
Baito
B.Sc. in
Computer Software
Graduated
December 2020
A native of Duhok, Rama enrolled at AUK to
study information technology, graduating in
December 2020. He now works as a Project
Manager for a humanitarian organization
called CAPNI for Humanitarian Aid in Iraq,
responsible for managing the Joint
Initiative for Strategic Religious Action
(JISRA) in the Nineveh Plain, part of a
larger program across seven countries that
works on peace building and conflict
resolution. JISRA promotes religious
freedom, while building inter-religious
tolerance and

understanding, across local communities in
Kirkuk, Sinjar and the Nineveh Plain.
Rama continues to live in Duhok. In addition
to working fulltime, he programs mobile
applications, individually or in
collaboration with another AUK alumnus: a
friend from university days.
Looking back on his experience at AUK, Rama
commented that, “AUK helped me a great
deal. Through AUK, I was able to develop
both my academic and personal skills. I
gained new skills in communicating with
people from different backgrounds. I
better understood diversity, as I met
people from different nationalities and
ethnic groups: Kurds, Arabs, Assyrians,
Yazidis and foreigners from more distant
lands”.
Rama most values the courses that he took on
mobile applications’ development. His
capstone project was the development of a
mobile app called SOS Emergency. He
continues to have fond memories of two
instructors in particular, stating that,
“Dr. Dara Sherwani’s courses were fun,
especially the course on Human Computer
Interaction (HCI). He is a brilliant
instructor! And Dr. Hassan is a
wonderful and helpful person, who helped
us to master Flutter, through his simple
and smooth explanations”.
In terms
of the next five years, Rama sees himself
continue to work in the humanitarian aid
sector, while running a programming company
with his associate and friend from AUK. He
reflected that, “if you want a real
study adventure, simply join AUK! What
you will learn allows you to continue
developing both yourself and your career
in one package”.
