CAPA’s Summer School Graduation 2024 Celebrates Young Learners’ Achievements
On September 7, 2024, The Center for Academic and Professional Advancement (CAPA) at the American University of Kurdistan held its Summer School graduation on the University’s campus. Dr. Randall Rhodes, President of AUK, and Ms. Loucine Hayes, Director of CAPA, awarded certificates to 696 students aged 4 to 17, who completed the English for Young Learners (YLP) program.
The Young Learners Program, designed to unlock the potential of young minds and set the foundation for long-term success, utilizes top-tier educational resources, including Global Stage by Macmillan and Look and See by National Geographic. One of the highlights of the curriculum is the inclusion of the TOEFL Junior test, where students assess their English proficiency and earn internationally recognized certificates. Students also can elect from four specialized tracks: LanTrack, SciTrack, TechTrack, and InnoTrack.
A key focus is teaching English in a way that not only imparts language skills but also instills essential life skills such as critical thinking, storytelling, presentation, problem-solving, and negotiation. Additionally, students engage in various extracurricular activities, including sports, games, art, and friendly competitions, allowing them to practice their English skills.
A mother of student, Pana, stated “My daughter’s confidence has improved so much! She now has the courage to speak English. I want to bring her next year as well.”
The CAPA will continue supporting young learners through its Saturday School and After School Program from October 2024 to May 2025.
